MAISON VERNAZ & FILLES, AN ODE TO GILDING

Established in Auvernaux in 1992, Maison Vernaz & Filles is specialized in gilding with gold leaf and in the manufacture of gilded frames. The House was founded by Mr. and Mrs. Vernaz, two enthusiasts willing to give life to objects dating between the seventeenth and the nineteenth century well as custom-made. Their two daughters are continuing the work.

METHODS THAT TRAVEL THROUGH CENTURIES

Vernaz & Filles’ know-how is developed in the knowledge of the work of art, through the restoration of gold-leaf gilding and personalized creations. In both cases, the traditional methods contribute to perpetuate the ancestral manual heritage.

Gilding with water and gilding through mixtion are the main techniques used by the gilders and are applied within the workshops of the House.
Gilding with water: from since the 12th century it is the most used process on wood. This technique is distinguished from others, due to the metallic rendering and the matte effects that result. These effects are achieved through applying a trim between
the primer and the gold leaf and through browning after laying the gold leaf.
Gilding through mixtion: easier and faster than the other techniques, it is largely used in decoration and it is the only one that can be used on metallic supports for outdoor usage.

These techniques are achieved with sable brushes, parchments, and gilding cushions, tools specific to these artists with golden hands.

PROCESSES THAT RESPECT THE STANDARDS OF THE WORKS RESTORED OR CREATED

Convinced of the importance of perpetrating the technique of gilding in our times, the House achieves the best results in restoration and conservation of heritage, while constantly innovating.

This is why the House executes a variety of projects, from its own creations, to the restoration of cultural heritage (Bridge Alexandre III, Grids of the Trianon, and many others), to residential projects (private yards and apartments,
private mansions), always respecting the objects it is entrusted.

Frames, furniture, mirrors, elevator shafts, and moldings, the list of its achievements is long. Each and every one of them requires a rigorous know-how, allowing to perpetuate the history of these exceptional objects.

Luxury hotels, interior decorators and interior designers, antique dealers, historical monuments , as well as end consumers, are regular customers of this French Maison.
